Developing the Message Dashboard was a complex and demanding undertaking. I initiated this project at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period marked by significant uncertainty regarding message volume and throughput. As these factors evolved, the application was subjected to rigorous real-world testing.

The dashboard was designed to process HL7 messages using Rhapsody, transforming them into structured database records for consumption by the user interface. In accordance with a standardized format defined by a governing committee—referred to as the Message Mapping Guide—each message was evaluated and annotated with validation errors and warnings as appropriate. The resulting data was organized to provide jurisdictions, public health programs, and organizational leadership with clear case information and statistical insights.
